Many celebrities make the Tampa Bay area their home. The great beaches, sunny weather and fantastic real estate options have attracted celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Hulk Hogan, Derek Jeter, Stephen King and is still home to famous coaches Jon Gruden and Tony Dungy.
Here’s a look at some of the celebrities who live in Tampa Bay and where their homes are located. Much like the area itself, they are spread out and take advantages of the many great areas Tampa Bay has an offer.
Jon Gruden and Tony Dungy
The two most famous coaches of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are neighbors in the Avila neighborhood of Tampa. Gruden famously replaced Dungy in 2002, leading the Buccaneers to a victory in the next Super Bowl. Dungy went on to win a Super Bowl as coach of the Indianapolis Colts. The two remain friends.
The legendary New York Yankees shortstop makes his home in a 32,000 square foot, English style mansion on Davis Island in Tampa. He also is renting a huge condo in Miami, where he now is part owner of the Miami Marlins. The New Jersey native decided to live in Tampa after spending many years in the area playing spring training ball with the Yankees.
Robin Zander and Brian Johnson
Lead singers of two of rock’s most legendary bands live in the Tampa Bay area. Zander, lead singer of Cheap Trick, lives in Safety Harbor. Johnson, lead singer of AC/DC, has a home on Bird Key in Sarasota.
The famous actor sold his homes in Los Angeles and New York and moved into a penthouse condo in Clearwater within the last two years, according to Architectural Digest, which got a tour of the place. Cruise, a longtime Scientologist, apparently wanted to live near the organization’s headquarters in Clearwater.
One of the most famous professional wrestlers worldwide makes his home in Clearwater. In addition to winning 12 titles, he’s also acted in many films, starting with “Rocky III” in 1983. He also starred in the televisions shows “Thunder in Paradise” and “Hogan Knows Best.”
Perhaps the best-known author on the planet, Stephen King splits his time between his home state of Maine and a home in the Sarasota area. He sometimes will show up at events in Tampa and St. Petersburg. He counts Florida author John D. MacDonald as an inspiration and set his novel “Duma Key” in Florida.
